About Sibenik





Where is Sibenik: Sibenik lies almost in the middle of the eastern Adriatic coast, between Split and Zadar, in the indented and picturesque bay around the confluence of the Krka river, one of the most beautiful Croatian rivers. The town was founded in the 10th century.

About Sibenik: Cathedral of St James, sacral buildings, palaces (Gothic palaces, Rossini, Pellegrin, Divinic and others) portals, vaulted passages, small streets, the old town Sibenik, city main square (Republic Square) with Dukes Palace, City Hall and the Bishops Palace.

UNESCO World Heritage site the Cathedral of St James in Sibenik make it an outstanding and unique sacral building in which Gothic and Renaissance forms have been successfully blended. Construction of the Cathedral started on 9 April 1431, until 1535.


The Fortress of St Michael was built at a hill, 70m above the sea behind the old city, in the period from the 15th to 17th century, in white stone.

Sibenik bay is separated from the Adriatic sea by the St Anthony channel. The county has 242 islands, islets and rocks. The largest group of islands are the Kornati, widely known for their unique, bizarre shapes and fascinating landscapes.

Accommodation in Sibenik is mostly in hotels, mainly in Solaris hotel resort, but if you want to stay at the edge parts of town, it is easy to find some beautiful villa or apartment for rent.


You could visit numerous museums, attend many festivals which are held during the summer, or go to sightseeing: Bishops Palace, Cathedral of St James, Sibenik city walls, Rector's Palace in Sibenik (Sibenik City Museum), Monument to Petar Kresimir IV, numerous fortresses and more.

Tourists can take rafting tours, or ski jet tours around islands in the archipelago. Boat excursions to national parks are very popular as well.

Diving: underwater sea life is exceptionally interesting with numerous diving locations that are available to all categories of divers, like in Kornati National Park, the island of Zirje, the ship wreck Francesca Rimini... Bungee jumping from a bridge (height 40m, span 362m).


Jeep Safari are exceptionally interesting for exploring the Dalmatian inland, on macadam explore picturesque and hidden places in the sea of rocks. Climbing, mountaineering, paintball...

The Kornati archipelago is the most densely grouped cluster of islands in the Mediterranean, consisting of 152 islands, isles and reefs, perfect for kayaking and sailing routes but also as a hiking destination. Clean, clear waters teeming with life are perfect for diving and fishing.

Krka virginally pure karstic river for two-thirds of its course, with its 7 magical waterfalls, flows through canyons. The watermills, ruins of fortifications rising above the canyons, Skradinski buk waterfall, lake Visovac with tiny island and a Franciscan monastery, Roski slap waterfalls...
