Hotel Kompas reviews

Stayed there a few years ago and walked passed it this week. It looked fairly run down on the outside but in a great location.The hotel is closing in September for a complete refurbishment, opening again in May 2014, when it will achieve a 4* rating.

Did not use the hotel just the cafe/snack bar. Good coffee -pity the cups are so small. Friendly staff eager to please and be if service. Meals are worth having - good choice, not too expensive and a very pleasant view over Lapad beach.

The food was good but sometimes not as hot as it could have been, although there was a good selection. Our room was on the fourth floor with a fantastic view over the bay from the balcony. One recommendation we received from our travel representative was instead of walking to the end of the pedestrianized area, to turn right at the children's play area and walk along to the oad junction and catch a No.4 bus into the old town. As this is where the bus terminates to go back it was always empty, although sometimes on the way back it was packed especially in the evening.

The breakfast was handy to have and the food in the hotel downstairs in the bar was really good. The rooms were fair sized and clean and the staff were always happy to help.

Breakfast dinner ok with various choices suitable for our family- nothing exceptional but fine for us.Would prefer hams/ cheeses to be covered to protect from wasps. 10 min bus ride from Dubrovnik.Perhaps hotel could organize a few things direct- Segway tour/ boat trips so could deal with them rather than choose from many operators on sea front.

The hotel was not in Dubrovnik city itself and took a good 15-20 minute bus trip to get to the sights. The rooms were dull and dark and pretty poor. The bathroom was small and very basic.

The location, overlooking the Adriatic, and the quality and friendliness of the staff, added to the quality of our visit and the journey into the Old Town was just a 10 minute bus ride away. Breakfast was a substantial feast of 5 or 6 choices of fruit, yoghurt, cereal, a cooked breakfast, meat and croissants; the evening menu was also very varied. The décor is a little tired.

Would stay again love Croatia lots of places to eat only a short bus ride to old town which is a must! One of the most picturesque places I had been to (but since been to Rome) would recommend was all reasonably priced. My only down point would be that if you have a late flight on departure then don't expect to be able to have a room and shower as everyone we saw was unsuccessful with this request. However in the hotels defense they did enable us to have a room to get changed in.

Pool is good and the food selection is very good with two menus a snack menu and a more substantial one. All in all a super place
