About Zadar

Where is Zadar: on the eastern Adriatic coast, northern Dalmatia, 175 km NW from Split.

About Zadar: The city is rich with heritage: the Roman Forum 1st century, Museum of Ancient Glass Zadar, The Treasury of the Franciscan Monastery, Saint Anastasia's Cathedral, medieval basilica - St. Donatus from the IX century, The City Walls and Gates, church of Saint Simeon...

Symbol of the city is the church of St. Donatus from the 9th century built on the remains of the ancient Roman Forum. Initially dedicated to the Holy Trinity, in 15th century started bearing name after the Zadar bishop Donatus.

The church has not been used for any sacral function in a long time. It has extraordinary acoustic characteristics. "The Musical Evening of St. Donatus", concerts of Renaissance and Medieval music, have been taking place in it for over 50 years.

The Church of St. Anastasia - The cathedral as it is today was built in the Romanesque style in 12th and 13th cnet. The Church of Saint Mary - Frescos with Early Romanesque characteristics can be seen on the walls of the church.

The Zadar peninsula still presents the ancient street grid of the old town, as well as Zadar National Museum, Permanent Exhibition of Church Art known as "The Gold and Silver of Zadar", Musuem of Nin Antiquities, People's Square, The Square of the Five Wells...

The Greeting to the Sun - with the sunset the lighting glass elements installed in a 22-meter-diameter circle turn on and produce a marvelous and impressive show of lights in the rhythm of the waves and the mystical tones of the nearby Sea Organ - a perfect orchestra of nature.

The archipelago of islands spreading along the northern Dalmatian coast is a phenomenon of more than 100 islands and islets existing on a relatively small area. National Park Kornati - a archipelago of 89 uninhabited islands. The sea waters are a paradise for all nautical activities.

Zadar is close to five National Parks: Kornati, Paklenica, Plitvica Lakes, Northern Velebit and Krka Waterfalls. You should check the interesting Nature Parks Telascica Bay on Dugi otok, Lake Vrana and the Velebit Mountain.
